Mr McClelland asked the Attorney-General, upon notice, on 5 April 2001:

(1) What legislation set the retiring age of judges in each State and Territory.

(2) What is the retiring age of judges in each State and Territory.


Mr Williams (Attorney-General) —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

As I do not have responsibility for legislation dealing with State and Territory judges, my Department does not keep records in relation to State and Territory judges. However, my Department has been able to obtain the following information through its library.

(1) The retiring ages for judges at the Supreme Court and District Court level for each State and Territory is set out below.
