Ms KERNOT (3:01 PM)
—My question is to the Minister for Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business. Minister, are you aware of comments by the Commonwealth Bank in today's economic update which state:
The effect of the GST's introduction on exacerbating the housing cycle has been a large contributor to the recent economic slowdown and employment weakness.
Minister, doesn't this mean that the GST has been largely responsible for the loss of 87,300 full-time jobs in the last four months? And isn't the worst of the GST job destruction yet to come?
Mr SPEAKER
—The member for Parramatta is warned!
Mr ABBOTT (Minister for Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business)
—If the member for Dickson was so opposed to the GST, the ALP would promise to repeal the GST. But they do not, so they do not have any credibility whatsoever on this issue.
