(Question No. 5551)

Mr Wright asked the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, upon notice, on 29 May 1987:

(1) What assistance has been provided by the Government to overcome problems in the Aboriginal and Islander Communities in Australia in relation to (a) alcoholism, (b) unemployment, (c) sub standard housing, (d) upgrading employment skills, (e) education disadvantages and (f) other welfare needs.

(2) What has been the value of this assistance since 1983.

Mr Holding —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

I refer the honourable member to a recent publication by my Department entitled ``Achievements in Aboriginal Affairs 1983-1987''.

This document, which is available in the Parliamentary Library, sets out activities in Aboriginal affairs since the Government came to power in 1983 and includes the levels of assistance made available as well as the outcomes arising from that assistance in all areas including those mentioned by the honourable member.
