To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives in Parliament assembled. The humble petition of certain members of the Glen Waverley Parish of the Uniting Church in Australia showeth:

That we believe the people of Australia continue to be concerned about the plight of the world's poor and the root causes of poverty and have demonstrated their concern by supporting public appeals for both crisis aid and development projects, and

That all major political parties in Australia have accepted the United Nations proposition that Australia's official overseas aid program should be maintained at 0.7 per cent of Gross Domestic Product, and

That the 1986 Commonwealth Budget reduced official overseas aid to 0.39 per cent of Gross Domestic Product.

Your petitioners humbly pray that the 1987 Commonwealth Budget should increase Australia's overseas aid program to the level proposed by the United Nations.

And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
