To the Honourable the Speaker and members of the House of Representatives in Parliament assembled. The humble petition of the undersigned citizens of Page electorate respectfully showeth that:

Rumour still suggests that the Hawke Government intends to further reduce benefits to ex-servicemen and war widows, by amalgamation of the Department of Veterans' Affairs with the Social Security Department.

Your petitioners humbly pray that the House of Representatives, in Parliament assembled, urge the Government to honour its commitment and that of previous Governments to ex-servicemen and women and war widows by:

1. Ensure the said amalgamation of these two Departments does not take place.

2. Abstain from repeated broken promises to ex-service personnel and families.

3. Leave our Department of Veterans' Affairs alone. We are not receiving a Welfare Pension, we receive a Compensation Pension.

4. Review and restore our Pharmaceutical benefits to Veterans' Affairs Department.

And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
