Mr RUDDOCK(3.59) —As was indicated in the Senate when the amendment to the Australian Institute of Multicultural Affairs Amendment Bill was moved by the Australian Democrats, the Opposition certainly does not oppose the amendment. The amendment merely adds to a list of organisations with which the Australian Institute of Multicultural Affairs and government will co-operate and discuss matters relating to multiculturalism a number of other institutions beyond those already mentioned.

The Special Minister of State (Mr Young) has mentioned those-various voluntary agencies, the media, employer and employee groups, and other organisations. Of course, other organisations obviously would have included tertiary education institutions and research institutes. I do not really think that the addition adds anything to the Bill. But, if somebody feels happier that tertiary education institutions and research institutes are included as groups and organisations, the Opposition has no objection. For that reason we certainly do not oppose the amendment.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
