Mr HOWE (Minister for Social Security)(10.59) —I want to say a few words in response to the honourable member for Cowper (Mr Nehl). I am sorry that I was not aware he was to speak tonight. I do not think that the kind of emotion he displayed is particularly helpful in relation to the assets test.

Mr SPEAKER —Order! It being 11 p.m., the debate is interrupted.

Mr Howe —Mr Speaker, I require that the debate be extended.

Mr SPEAKER —The debate may continue until 11.10 p.m.
