Debate resumed from 27 March, on motion by Mr Kerin:

That the Bill be now read a second time.

upon which Mr Hunt had moved by way of amendment:

That all words after 'That' be omitted with a view to substituting the following words: 'whilst not declining to give the Bill a second reading, the House is of the opinion that other factors such as heavily increased export inspection charges are adversely affecting competitiveness on vital export markets'.


Mr SPEAKER —Before the debate is resumed, I remind the House that it has been agreed that a general debate be allowed to cover this Bill, the Australian Meat and Live-stock Legislation (Consequential Amendments and Transitional Provisions) Bill, the Live-stock Slaughter Levy Amendment Bill and the Live-stock Export Charge Amendment Bill.
