Mr HOWARD —I refer the Acting Prime Minister to the anonymous letter addressed to Mr Justice Stewart to which he first made reference in this House. Can the honourable gentleman assure the House that neither he nor anyone on his behalf has had any discussion with the Federal member of parliament referred to in that letter regarding the reference to that member of parliament in that letter?

Mr LIONEL BOWEN —No, I cannot. The member of parliament rang me to say that it was leaked to the Age newspaper, on Saturday apparently, following the close of Parliament here. So the Age newspaper was in touch with the member apparently.

Mr Howard —Did he deny the allegation?

Mr LIONEL BOWEN —That is a matter for the member.

Mr Howard —Did he deny the allegation?

Mr LIONEL BOWEN —I would think he would.
