Senator GREENWOOD (VictoriaAttorneyGeneral) - I think I should indicate that the Government recognises that there is a general agreement, certainly amongst the majority of the Senate, that there should be some such provision as is proposed, and the Government will not oppose some such provision. The real question at issue appears to be what should be the form which this provision should take. It appears to me that the difference is that the Australian Labor Party takes the view that one should simply look at the organisation which is sought to be absorbed and the number of members it has, without any regard to an overall context and that the Democratic Labor Party's amendment does take into account what has been happening over a period of time. The Government will support the DLP amendment.
