Senator McAULIFFE - I ask a question of the Minister representing the Minister for Social Services. Is the Minister aware that age and invalid pensioners travelling interstate by rail on concession rates must pay full rates for a sleeping berth? Will the Minister approach the State railway departments to enable pensioners to pay the difference between their concession fare and the cost of a sleeper or, alternatively, allow them a concession on the cost of a sleeping berth? Will the Minister also approach the airline companies to obtain concession flights for age and invalid pensioners on a similar basis to existing arrangements in operation with the railways and bus companies?

Senator GREENWOOD - The matters to which the honourable senator refers are the province of the State governments or the airline companies concerned. I see the point which he is making. I will have it conveyed tothe Minister for Social Services whom I represent for him to take such action as he considers appropriate.
