Senator E B JOHNSTON (WESTERN AUSTRALIA) - It provides that at the expiration of two years the retail price of sugar shall be further reduced by½d. per lb. I would much prefer the reduction to be made in -September next, when the present agreement expires. I am quite unable to yield to the blandishments of my eloquent friend Senator Brown from Queensland and support the bill. I believe that the people of Australia are being exploited to the amount of £6,000,000 annually in connexion with one of the most vital commodities in daily use. I intend to vote against the bill as a protest against the continuation of the "embargo, and to support the amendment to be moved by Senator Duncan-Hughes.
