The CHAIRMAN (Senator Sampson (TASMANIA) - The committee is considering the proposed' vote for the Parliament, and the honorable senator is entitled to speak only on the proposed items of expenditure.

Senator J V MACDONALD (QUEENSLAND) - There is a general opinion both inside and outside the Senate that the voting strength of Australia is inadequately represented in this chamber. This is a matter which I dealt with on the first reading. In order to test the feeling of the committee, I move -

That the House of Representatives be requested to reduce the amount by £1.

The voting strength of Australia is not fairly represented in the Senate.
