Senator GARDINER (New South Wales) . - I do not know why the Government cannot accept the request. The only reason apparent is that the growing of hides is a primary industry. I advise Senator Guthrie and Senator Sir Thomas Glasgow to buy a wee bit of land and erect a small pen somewhere in the neighbourhood. of Melbourne and rear two or three calves for their hides. They will then be able to inform the Government that a promising industry has been established in Victoria - somewhere pretty close to Melbourne; and their plea for any amount of protection will be heard.

Request agreed to.
