Senator RUSSELL (VICTORIA) (Vice-President of the Executive Council) - On 28th July, Senator Fairbairn asked the Minister representing the Minister for Trade and Customs the following questions : -

1.   Upon what date was the bank rate of exchange substituted for the mint par rate in computing value for duty on goods imported from the United States of America and Japan?

2.   Since that date, what amount is estimated as having been collected from Importers, up to 30th June, 1921, in excess of what would have been received had the mint par rate been continuedas the methodof computation?

Iam now able to furnish the honorable senator with the following replies: -

1.   8th December,1920.

2.   Approximately, £679,543.
