Senator LYNCH asked the Minister representing the Minister of Home Affairs, upon notice -

1.   If it is a fact that the Government, when calling for tenders recently for the supply of coal for use on the western end of the transcontinental railway, specially excluded coal raised in Western Australia?

2.   Whether the Government kept in mind the expediency of using Western Australian coal on the transcontinental railway when calling for tenders for the supply of locomotives?

3.   If not, will the Government give consideration to the matter now, and, if necessary, test the suitability of the coal for general purposes on the railway?
