Senator DE LARGIE (WESTERN AUSTRALIA) asked the Minister representing the Minister of Home Affairs, upon notice -

1.   Have tenders been received for the excavation of a 5,000.000-gallon capacity tank at Lake Windabout, on the Kalgoorlie-Port Augusta railway?

2.   If tenders have been received, how many were submitted to the Government?

3.   What is the total amount of each tender, and price per cubic yard for excavation?

4.   What is the specified date of completion according to the conditions of tendering?

5.   What is the amount of penalty per day for non-completion of the work in accordance with theconditions of contract?

6.   If no tender has yet been accepted, when does the Minister expect to accept the lowest or any tender?

Senator McCOLL - The answers are -

1.   Yes.

2.   Two.

3.   4, 5, and 6. Tenders are still under consideration, consequently no contract has been entered into, andunder such circumstances it is inadvisable to disclose thetender prices.
