Mr Snedden asked the Prime Minister, upon notice:

(   1 ) With reference to the answer to question No. 6 ( Hansard, 17 October 1974, page 2582) relating to the number of men and women who have sat as union representatives on promotion appeal panels, when was the survey of the A.C.T. promotions appeal committee conducted.

(2)   Who conducted the survey.

(3)   Have the appropriate unions been informed of the results of the survey.

(4)   If so, what were their reactions to the results.

(5)   If not, will he inform the appropriate unions of the results of the survey.

(6)   Will he make available to me copies of the results of this survey and other surveys which are being conducted.

(7)   Is it considered that the question of union representatives sitting on selection panels or tribunals established under the Public Service Act is worthy of examination.

(8)   If so, will he authorise such an examination.

Mr Whitlam - The answer to the right honourable member's question is as follows:

(1)   1 March-30 April 1974.

(   2 ) Officers of the Public Service Board.

(3)   Members of the Joint Council Sub-committee on Women, including representatives of the Commonwealth Council of Public Service Organisations and the Amalgamated Postal Workers Union, were informed of the results of the A.C.T. survey.

(4)   It is expected that the unions will give their views when the final results of the survey are made available to them.

(5)   See(3).

(6)   I have already given the right honourable member, in answer to an earlier question ( Hansard, 1 7 October 1 974. p. 2582), results from the A.C.T. survey. That survey, however, forms only part of a planned broader investigation, results of which are not available at this stage.

(7)   and (8) A Joint Council Sub-committee is examining the question of staff association representation on selection committees.
