Mr Lucock - I rise to a point of order, Mr Deputy Speaker. I would like to have a ruling on a matter. Whilst I accept and appreciate that the motion' That the question be now put' can be moved at any stage, did the House not agree to a motion by the Minister for Minerals and Energy (Mr Connor) that the debate on this matter be extended to 12.45 p.m.? If so, would the decision of the House that the debate be extended to 12.45 p.m. not preclude the Minister or any honourable member from moving 'That the question be now put'? Would that not be contradictory to a decision already made by the House?

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER (Mr Martin)Themotion which was carried previously was that the time allotted for the duration of the debate be extended to 12.45 p.m. It is competent for a Minister to terminate such a debate at any time by moving 'That the question be now put'. The House itself has decided that the question should be now put. So the matter is out of my hands.

Question put -

That the words proposed to be added (Mr Connor's amendment) be added.
