Mr Bryant t asked the Minister for the Interior, upon notice -

1.   What sites have been made available to petrol companies in Canberra since 1st January, 1954?

V'-at prices have been paid for these sites, and upon what terms have they been alienated?

Mr Fairhall - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows: -

1.   Leases of two motor service station sites in O'Connor and Narrabundah and one minor industrial site in Braddon were sold by auction - the successful bidder in each case was an oil company; and one industrial site for a storage depot in Fyshwick has been leased to an oil company.

2.   The City Area Leases Ordinance requires the payment in cash of any amount bid at auction in excess of the reserve value on which lease rental is assessed, and in accordance with this requirement amounts of £29,500, £6,150 and £7,100 were paid to the Commonwealth for the motor service station sites and the minor industrial site respectively. In each case the Crown lease has been granted for 99 years with rentals at 5 per cent, per annum of the unimproved value which is subject to re-appraisement every twenty years.
