Mr Ward d asked the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   Has a request been made to him to receive a deputation of representative citizens from Dubbo and surrounding districts concerning the decision to substitute Narromine for Dubbo as the alternative airport for overseas aircraft when weather conditions make it impossible to land at the Kingsford-Smith airport?

2.   If so, will he state whether he proposes to meet the deputation?

Mr Menzies - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows : -

1.   Yes.

2.   The decision to make Narromine aerodrome the alternate international airport to Kingsford-Smith has been made after full consideration and on expert technical advice. It is concurred in by the Minister for Civil Aviation (Mr. Anthony) and by his two predecessors in office, Sir Thomas White and Mr. Drakeford. As a decision as to where an alternate international airport should be situated, can only be made in accordance with expert technical advice. I do not consider that any useful purpose would be achieved by my receiving a deputation from the Dubbo Municipal Council to discuss the matter.
