Mr Blackburn n asked the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   Has he received a copy of a resolution carried on the 17th August, 1942, by a meeting ofrepresentatives of the municipalities comprised within the metropolitan fire district of Melbourne?

2.   Will he take steps to ensure that the permanent and partially trained staffs of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade of Melbourne, as well as the number of auxiliary firemen already trained throughout the metropolis of Melbourne, shall be maintained at their present strength?

3.   Will he take steps to ensure that for the protection of the metropolis of Melbourne against fire caused by enemy action at least 1.000 men shall be made available for training by fire-fighting experts?

Mr Curtin - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows : -

1.   Yes. 2 and 3. My colleague, the Minister for Home Security, in reply to a similar question by the honorable member for Henty, made a statement in regard to this matter. I refer the honorable member to that statement which appears in Hansard on the 9th September, 1942, and which sets out the present position of the matter.
