The CHAIRMAN (Mr Bell (DARWIN, TASMANIA) - The Minister is endeavouring to traverse the whole of the defence programme. If he is permitted to do that, he must expect that other honorable members will desire to avail themselves of the same privilege.

Mr FRANCIS - I ask leave to reply to the remarks of other honorable members. I may add that the Government is taking steps to enlarge and mechanize the army and bring it up to date. We shall do the same thing in regard to munition supplies.
