Senator Baume asked the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, upon notice:

(   1 ) How many Aborigines are at present employed in the Australian Public Service.

(2)   How many Aborigines are employed in (a) the First Division; (b) the Second Division; (c) the Third Division; and (d) the Fourth Division.

(3)   Does the percentage distribution of Aborigines between the various Divisions differ markedly from that of white employees of the Australian Public Service.

Senator Cavanagh - The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows: ( 1 ), (2) and (3) Information on the employment of Aboriginals in the Australian Public Service was in the 1973 Public Service Board Annual Report (page 77 ).

The Public Service Board has informed me that developments during the year will be outlined in its 1974 Annual Report which I understand will be tabled in September. I also understand that the 1974 Annual Report will include the results of a survey of Aborigines in the Service.

In view of his interest, I have arranged with the Public Service Board for the honourable senator to receive a copy of the survey report.
