(Question No. 139)


Senator Baume asked the Minister representing the Minister for Health, upon notice:

(   1 ) How many doctors have applied for the 27 salaried full-time positions at the Canberra hospitals, for which applications closed on 1 August 1974.

(2)   How many of the applicants were Australian expatriate doctors.

(   3 ) How many were English doctors.

(4)   How many were other nationalities and what were these nationalities.

(5)   How many of the doctors are (a) under 30 years of age (b) between 30 and 40 years of age and (c) above 40 years of age for each of the national sub-groups.

(6)   When will selections be made for the positions.

(7)   How many applications for positions were received from doctors resident in the Australian Capital Territory.


Senator Wheeldon - Mr President,if you detect in me a rather shaky demeanour and a tremor in my voice it is not because I am overcome with emotion as a result of this question; it is because an infernal machine has been placed under the floor. This machine is shaking the Minister for Agriculture, other honourable senators and myself while we are trying to carry out our business. The Minister for Health has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:
