Senator Douglas McClelland (NEW SOUTH WALES) (Minister for the Media) - Obviously this is a matter for my colleague the Attorney-General (Senator Murphy) who apparently has been called away on other matters. I am unaware of the answer to be provided to Senator Wright. What are the terms and conditions, fixed by the AttorneyGeneral and applicable to each State, on which the Government is providing a sum of$2m for legal aid.

Senator Murphyreplied:

The Australian Government approved a grant of $2m to be made to State governments on a per capita basis to supplement the legal aid services in the States and to be expended in a manner to be approved by the Attorney-General.
