Senator Carrick asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice:

(1)   Why has the present National Anthem, 'God Save the Queen', been excluded from the list of songs in the proposed poll to determine a new National Anthem for Australia.

(2)   Does the Prime Minister agree that the Australian people should be given the chance to determine whether or not they wish to retain the present National Anthem.

(3)   Is the exclusion of the present National Anthem another step in the declared statement of the Prime Minister that the Monarchy is outmoded and irrelevant.

Senator Murphy - The Prime Minister has provided the following reply to the honourable senator's question:

(1)   and (2)1 refer the honourable senator to my answer to a question without notice on 7 November 1973 (House of Representatives Hansard page 288 1 ). (3)1 have nothing to add to the answer I gave to the honourable senator in response to an earlier question he asked concerning the Monarchy (Senate Hansard 27 March 1973, pages 597-598).
