Senator DONALD CAMERON (SOUTH AUSTRALIA) (Minister for Labour) - I ask the Minister for the Media: In view of the importance of the Government's policies in relation to Asia, does Radio Australia have an officer based in Canberra?

Senator Douglas McClelland (NEW SOUTH WALES) -Radio Australia administratively is responsible to the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Upon making inquiries of the Commission about this matter recently, I was advised that there was no officer of Radio Australia directly employed by the ABC in Canberra. Because of the unique nature of the responsibilities of Radio Australia in gathering material to be presented in its various public affairs programs abroad, I suggested to the ABC that it should appoint a program officer for Radio Australia in Canberra. I understand that a recommendation of that nature is now in the course of being presented to me, and I hope to be able to give my approval to it in the near future.
