Senator Dame NANCY BUTTFIELD - May I ask a supplementary question, Mr President?

The PRESIDENT - What is the supplementary question?

Senator Dame NANCY BUTTFIELD - I want to know whether the Leader of the Government in the Senate will answer the point of my question, which was: What does the Government intend doing about the control of trade unions by international organisations?

Senator MURPHY - I would ask the honourable senator to put on notice the precise point which she wants answered so that it can be answered. The short answer to the honourable senator's question is that the Australian Government wants laws in the industrial field, including those applying to trade unions, which conform with the international standards and which conform with what has been evolved and set out in our policy over the years. It would help a great deal if the honourable senator would try to encourage the members of her own Party to assist the

Government in getting the necessary legislation passed.
