Senator Douglas McClelland (NEW SOUTH WALES) asked the Minister representing the Postmaster-General, upon notice:

(1)   Did the Postmaster-General announce on 7th May 1970 that he proposed requesting the Australian Broadcasting Control Board to hold a public inquiry into frequency modulation and did the Board commence hearings in March 1971.

(2)   Has the Board's report been presented to the Government; of so, on what date did the Government receive the report.

(3)   Does the Government intend tabling the report in this Parliamentary session and making a statement as to its intentions on the subject.


Senator GREENWOOD - The PostmasterGeneral has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1)   Yes.

(2)   The Board submitted its report to me on 7th July 1972.

(3)   I hope it will be possible for the report to be considered and tabled during the current parliamentary session.
