Senator MULVIHILL asked the Minister representing the Minister for Immigration, upon notice:

(1)   What is the number of applications for migration to Australia listed at:

(a)   Bombay;

(b)   New Delhi; and

(c)   other major Indian cities?

(2)   How many of these applicants possess Portuguese passports?

Senator GREENWOOD - The Minister for Immigration has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1)   The numbers of applications received by the Australian High Commission, New Delhi and the Australian Deputy High Commissions, Bombay and Calcutta but not yet decided as at 31st January 1972 were -


(2)   Applicants are not required to produce passports unless their applications are approved. It is not possible therefore to say how many of the applicants possess Portugese passports, nor has an analysis been made of the applications according to nationalities shown in them.

Suggest corrections
