Senator E B JOHNSTON asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   Has the attention of the Government been drawn to the following statement regarding wheat legislation made by the AttorneyGeneral of New South Wales (Mr. Manning) in the Legislative Council on the 19th instant: "During the last few days the Premier has been in touch with the Commonwealth Government on the question whether this legislation should apply to the present harvest and in view of the discussion this Government has decided to inform thu House that this act shall not be made applicable to this harvest, and it is thought in consequence that the flour tax will be continued meanwhile " ?

2.   Is it correct that the Commonwealth Government requested the holding over of the operation of the State wheat legislation in Now South Wales, until next year, as stated by Mr. Manning?

3.   If not, what requests were made to the Government of New South Wales in the discussions referred to by Mr. Manning?

Senator Sir GEORGE PEARCE -The right honorable the Prime Minister has supplied the following answers : -

1.   Yos.

2.   No.

3.   No request was made to the Government of New South Wales.
