Senator PAYNE (Tasmania) . - I understand that certain classes of fruit which were exported last year re turned a very handsome profit, whilst others were unprofitable. I gather that the board was tied hand and foot with regard to the imposition of the export charge of id., which had to be levied on all classes of fruit, whether it was exported at a profit or otherwise. The proposal now is to give the board power, should any fruit prove to be unprofitable, to reduce or abandon the charge for the season if the funds at the disposal of the board are sufficient to meet the expenses incurred. That is a common-sense proposal.
