Senator GARDINER (New South Wales) . - Senator Senior has told us that Fuller's earth is a by-product of an industry which is already highly protected.

Senator Senior - That is not so.

Senator GARDINER - It is obtained in connexion with the production of gypsum, plaster of paris - -

Senator Senior - Fuller's earth is not obtained in the manufacture of gypsum or plaster of paris.

Senator GARDINER - The honorable senator recently delivered a most interesting address, in which he dealt with the industry of which Fuller's earth and face powders are by-products. He displayed a knowledge of face powders which rather astonished me. I remember Senator Senior impressing on my mind how this by-product was collected and put on the market. That being so, I do not think that the duty ought to be increased, but that the request ought to be withdrawn.
