Senator GIVENS (Queensland) .- I can quite understand that the object of this proposal is to take gas and similar cooking stoves out of this item and place them in another under which they will have to pay a higher duty. I have no objection to that, because I believe gas stoves are manufactured in Australia, and if they are not, they ought to be. I fail altogether, however, to understand why we should continue to make Primus and other similar stoves, which are not manufactured in Australia, and are not likely to be manufactured here, dutiable at 20 per cent. This is merely a revenue duty, and I should like some explanation from the Minister on that point.
