Mr Scholes (CORIO, VICTORIA) asked the Minister for Construction, upon notice:

(   1 ) Has he been asked to undertake, or undertaken on his own initiative, a study into the cost of installing an electronic voting system in the House of Representatives.

(2)   Can he provide the House with details of the costs of various forms of automatic voting systems.

Mr McLeay - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(   1 ) There has been no approach to the Department of Construction about an electronic voting system for the House of Representatives and I have not initiated any study into the matter.

(2)   Estimates of cost have not been prepared for the various forms of automatic voting systems.
