Mr Malcolm Fraser - We need to know how you would react under the same circumstances.

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER -It would be improper for me to give the answer that I should give to that question.

Mr Malcolm Fraser - Mr Deputy Speaker, when there is an election for a new Speaker will the Prime Minister seek a commitment from you that you will accept his instructions?

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER -At this stage I know of no new election for Speaker.

Mr Peacock - I raise a point of order, Mr Deputy Speaker. This House is entitled to be informed of the nature of the threat made by the Prime Minister to the Speaker.

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER (Mr Scholes -The honourable gentleman is fully aware that this has nothing to do with me or the House.

Mr Peacock - It transpired during the sitting of the House and we are entitled to be told of the nature of the threat.

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER -Order! The honourable gentleman is aware -

Mr Peacock - I therefore ask you to ascertain it from the Speaker and advise us.

Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER -That point of order was taken up with the Speaker while he was in the Chair. He refused to answer it. I do not see that I can deal with a matter between 2 individuals.
