Mr Bennett asked the Minister for Transport, upon notice:

(1)   Will he make public the dates on which the newly formed sections of the Eyre Highway, west of Penong, will be available for use by motorists.

(2)   What is the expected date of final completion of the Eyre Highway.

Mr Charles Jones - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

Responsibility for work on the Eyre Highway rests with the appropriate authorities in South Australia. However, the following information has been supplied by the Department of Highways, South Australia.

(1)   It is expected that the twenty-one mile section between Penong and Bookabie will be sealed by mid November 1973 at which time the highway will be open for use by motorists.

(2)   Work is proceeding on the remaining 232 miles to the South Australian/Western Australian border and it is expected that the entire route will be sealed by June 1975.
