Mr LYNCH (FLINDERS, VICTORIA) - Did the Minister for Defence receive no information from Mr Clem Lloyd, either volunteered by Mr Lloyd or requested from him by the honourable gentleman, as to the reason why Mr Lloyd was leaving his staff, until the time of Mr Lloyd's statement made yesterday?

Mr BARNARD - r said in answer to the Leader of the Opposition that at no time did Mr Lloyd inform me that he had been told, or that information had been conveyed to him, that he was not to attend the briefings with Lord Carrington. This was not discussed between Mr Lloyd and me.

Mr Lynch - I was asking why he was leaving your staff. Did he give you a reason? Did you seek reasons?

Mr BARNARD - The answer is no. He did not give this as a reason for leaving my staff.

Mr Lynch - Did he give you any reason?

Mr BARNARD - No, not at all.
