Mr Wallis asked the Minister for Shipping and Transport, upon notice:

(1)   How many residences are owned by the Commonwealth Railways at its various operational locations.

(2)   How many of these homes are (a) of brick or brick veneer construction (b) of timber framed construction and (c) temporary dwellings classed as sub-standard.

Mr Nixon - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1)   There are 982 residences owned by the Commonwealth Railways.

(2)   Residences constructed of brick, brick veneer or stone total 296; Residences of timber frame construction total 677; Temporary dwellings classed as sub-standard total 9.
