Dr Patterson asked the Minister for Supply, upon notice:

(1)   Is it a fact that the State of Queensland is discriminated against by his Department in annual purchases by the Commonwealth.

(2)   If not, what is the reason for the wide differences in purchases by the Commonwealth from Queensland as compared with New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

Mr Garland - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1)   No.

(2)   As mentioned in my reply to Question 4817, all States are given an equal opportunity to participate in defence business. I have not investigated the reasons for the varying levels of actual participation.
