Mr Whitlam asked the Minister representing the Attorney-General, upon notice:

As the Commonwealth is now considering legislation to compensate the victims of crimes of violence in the mainland Territories (Hansard. 20th August 1971, page 468), is it proposed to have the Standing Committee of Commonwealth and State Attorneys-General again discuss the question of uniform legislation in the States (Hansard. 10th October 1968, page 1902).

Mr N H Bowen (PARRAMATTA, NEW SOUTH WALES) - The AttoroneyGeneral has provided the following answer to the honourable member's question:

No. As was indicated in the answer in Hansard, 1 0th October 1968, page 1902. the question of the introduction of any such legislation is felt to be a matter for each Stale to decide.
