Mr Barnard asked the Minister for Education and Science, upon notice:

(1)   What has been the-

(a)   total recurrent expenditure on libraries;

(b)   expenditure on library books and periodicals;

(c)   bookstocks;

(d)   number of professional staff, and

(e)   number of other staff in relation to each college of advanced education in Australia for each of the last 5 years.

(2)   What are the estimated figures for each of the next three years.

(1)   and (2) The question was referred to the

Mr Malcolm Fraser (WANNON, VICTORIA) The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) and (2) The question was referred to the Commonwealth Statistician; the Acting Commonwealth Statistician has supplied the following table which contains information on bookstocks, numbers of professional staff, and numbers of other staff, relating to colleges of advanced education libraries. Statistics shown in this table relate to the years 1969 and 1970, which are the only years for which information is available.
