Dr SOLOMON (DENISON, TASMANIA) - My question is addressed to the Minister for Defence. In view of a reported request by the Tasmanian Premier for upgrading the. status of .Tasmania Command and the restoration of the traditional 40th Infantry Battalion in Hobart and the 12th Infantry Battalion in Launceston, can the Minister indicate what progress has been made in this matter?

Mr FAIRBAIRN (FARRER, NEW SOUTH WALES) (Minister for Defence) - I. am sure that the honourable gentleman would realise that this- is a matter of policy. I can assure him that it is a matter which is under consideration at the present moment, as we are looking at some possible alterations in the structure of the Army. When a decision is matte it will be conveyed through the normal channels from the Prime Minister to the Premier.
