Mr KELLY (Wakefield) - I want to take up one point that the honourable member for Dawson (Dr Patterson) raised. In one respect what he says is true: It is not necessarily uneconomic if the taxpayers' contribution comes to more than the service fee charged for the water. If production is profitable, on balance it may be good economics. My point was that if the matter is being treated from a purely economic standpoint and if the same result can be achieved without paying $225 for every acre irrigated it is a much better situation. 1 repeat, if the same result can be gained without spending any money at all it. is better than spending S225 an irrigated acre. I do not think that the honourable member for Dawson would argue with that economic treatise. That was the only point I made.
