3. (b) This question seems to infer that the National Television stations are operated on a commercial basis, whereas this is not the case. If the honorable member is seeking to match, in respect of each station, the costs of operating a station with the revenue collected in a station's service area from viewer's licence fees, I would refer him to the reply I gave to his Question No. 387 appearing on Page 196 of "Hansard" of 18th March 1965.

4.   The effective radiated power of each of the stations in the National Television Service, operating or in the course of establishment, is 100 KW. vision and 20 KW. sound with theexception of the Broken Hill station for which the effective radiated power is 5 KW. vision and 1 KW. sound. The coverage of a television station varies considerably according to the power used, the height of the transmitter site and the topography in the area concerned, but in average conditions the reception from a 100 KW. station is generally satisfactory in an area within a radius of about 60 miles from the station's transmitter.
