Mr McIVOR (GELLIBRAND, VICTORIA) - Would the right honorable gentleman inform the House as to the state of Australia's defence services prior to the Curtin Government taking office? Were the defences of this country entirely inadequate to meet the threat of a Japanese invasion? Was Australia wide open to invasion? Was this the reason which compelled the Curtin Government to introduce conscription? Was the right honorable gentleman a member of the party which made the defence services in this country inadequate?
