Mr MENZIES - Mr. Chairman,Iwouldlike to thank the committee for its vote.

The CHAIRMAN - Order! The time allotted for the consideration of proposed new section 24ab has expired. The question now is, "That the amendment be agreed to ". Those in favour say, " Aye "; to the contrary, " No ". I think the " Noes " have it.

Opposition. Members. - The " Ayes " have it.

The CHAIRMAN - The committee will divide. (The bells being rung) -

Mr Ward - Mr. Chairman, is it not a fact that the Standing Orders require that two persons at least shall call for a division? If nobody called " No ", there was no dissent and you must declare the vote in favour of the " Ayes ".

Mr Aston - I called for a division.

The CHAIRMAN - Order! It is perfectly correct that the Standing Orders require that two members call for a division, and two voices in my opinion were heard:

Mr Ward - Who were they?

The CHAIRMAN - The Attorney General was also one of them.

Question put -

That the amendment (Mr. Whitlam's) be agreed to.
