Mr Whitlam m asked the PostmasterGeneral, upon notice -

1.   Was a contract let for the extension of the Carramar exchange building on the 18th August, 1955?

2.   Was the extension of the buildings completed on the 22nd February, 1957?

3.   Were there 799 unsatisfied telephone applications on the earlier date and 880 on the latter date?

4.   How many telephones were installed between the two dates?

5.   How many unsatisfied applications are there at the present time?

6.   When is it proposed to install equipment in the new buildings?

7.   When is it expected that all applications at present outstanding will be satisfied?

Mr Davidson (DAWSON, QUEENSLAND) (Postmaster-General) - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows: -

6.   December, 1957.

7.   Substantial cable relief is planned on the 1957-58 works programme. Full relief will be afforded as soon as the resources available to the department will permit.
