Mr KENNEDY (Moira) -I should like the names of the two officers mentioned in this clause to be struck out, and a provision substituted which would empower the Government to pay compensation to all who may be entitled to it throughout the service. It has been suggested to me that the substitution of the word " Defence" for " Price and Bayly " would be a desirable amendment. I think that we should be just as well as generous in this matter. It is admitted that a number of other men in the Defence Force are entitled to similar consideration to that which it is proposed to extend to Colonel Price and Lt. -Col. Bayly. If the principle of paying compensation to officers injured whilst on duty is a right one to apply, why should it not be applied universally ?
